Hi
Can anyone help me with relocation packages for professionals please?

I am an IT Specialist of 20 years experience have always worked for the same company and I have been offered a move to Brno from the UK company to the Czech Company.

I am being offered as a relocation package
the same UK salary
the cost of a container (one way)
plus flights for the wife and child one way.
Has anyone had a better offer?

My length of service is to be cut from 20 to 0, I do not know the implications of this.. For the 12 months I have been working on secondment – fully expensed but this will be withdrawn when I move. My wife/child (age 18) do not speak Czech and will loose their UK income. I have heard that unless you are working full time you do not get access to the health service.

From what I know your dependants get health insurance through you. But it would be best to check with your company.

If you are senior level management I guess you are around the 3-4.000 euro mark. Here it is a lot of money. Consider the likely expenses.

Flat 3+1 very nice 16-20k
Food and beverages, chemicals for house etc 15k
Car expenses (gas, registration etc) 2-3k
Teenager allowance 3-4k max
Language lessons don't know
College?

4.000 euro is ~100.000 crowns so I think you three can have a very nice life here.

Alternative

I have no experience of relocation packages Tony but it seems to me that a lot depends on what the alternative to your relocation is. The package itself doesn't seem great to my untrained eye ( apart from your continued UK salary which should go a long way here) but if the alternative is a not so golden handshake then it might be a more attractive option.

I don't think the point you make about dependents not being covered for health insurance is the case but best check it out to make sure.

Good Luck, do your homework and don't forget to read the small print in ENGLISH . Wink
