and is performing every Saturday at the Jazz Cafe, Orli 1, (on the corner of Orli and Masarykova). Entrance is free and you can contact Ivo for more details on 775 233 399
Hi all
I am now performing every Wed at at "Club Netopyr", a cool sub-level
venue located under Fleda. No cover charge, so pop in, I need you international people to hum along to some of the familiar tunes I cover.
Cheers, hope to see you there!

Was invited to a pre-Christmas "do" yesterday by an organisation involved in helping foreigners here in Brno.
Anyway, it was a good day and the highlight was a band called "Ekvador". They may have chosen their name for marketing reasons but if you can imagine the Gypsy Kings singing in Arabic with a bit of Santana style guitar thrown in you've just about got it.
The singer plays an arab tom tom style drum excellently and is from Iraq. They also have a guy from Georgia (not the US state)who plays Spanish guitar and sings in Russian. A couple of Brno locals on lead and bass guitar make up the numbers. Great music for listening and dancing. Worth catching.
My apologies this band is called "Ekvator" (as in equator) makes a bit more sense I suppose.
Fleda has some good shows as well, but I guess it depends on the type of music you like. There's also Faval, near BVV and Yacht Club, close to the Technical University dorms. Yacht Club seems to have alot of punk and hardcore bands playing, never been as it's a bit far for me, but might be inclined to go there one day. Also, Semilasso has concerts, Johnny Winter played there recently, and Alterna, under the student dorms in Kralove Pole has jazz shows from time to time. Also there's Melodka, on Kounicova, has more punk, grunge, metal shows, Musilka, alot of revival bands play there, and Leitnerova, smaller independent groups.
Hi...can anyone tell me the best place to go to see live bands?
You may want to check out this place:
http://www.metromusic.cz/index2.html near Nameste Svobody
It is rather big club with sizeable stage - so far the biggest band which I've seen there was a big band consisting of 20 people. The bands performing there represent all sorts of genres. Usually after the concert a DJ takes over the place and party continues till late or shall I say early hours.
Another place (very different in its character) is Stara Pekarna (The Old Bakery) near the Luzanky Park. It is smaller than Metro Music club but is much better if you want to go to listen to a particular band and then stay for a while just to chat with people. http://www.starapekarna.cz/programs/program.php
