Need some advice on purchasing property (Where to begin)

Hello All:

My girlfriend and I have been renting the same flat for several years and would like to seriously look into purchasing something now that I have permanent residency.

The problem is that we don't really know where to begin in the whole process. My girlfriend is Czech, but she's never owned property before. I never owned property in my native Canada, so this would make a first time home buyer out of me also.

I've recieved a lot of conflicting information about what to do and what not to do. I've been told to avoid real estate agencies, as their commission fees are extortionate for Czechs and even more so for foreigners, and try to strike a deal direct with the property owner.

There is also the legal end of the matter. I have heard, though can find no document to back it up, that a Canadian needs to have an s.r.o. to legally have a mortgage in the Czech Republic. Does anyone know of a web site that concretely pins down what a foreigner has to do to legally get a mortgage here?

Research of an apartment 1 + kk or a student room for 9/2010 - 1/2011

Hello, my name is Simon, I am Belgian, the next academic year I will make an internship at the faculty of informatics of the Masaryk University in Brno. The date of the internship are from from the middle of September 2010 to the end of January 2011. So, for this period (September-January), I search a little apartment (1 + kk) or a student room, (or possibly a flatmate). It must be in the around of the faculty (not too far), fully furnished (bed, kitchen and sanitation, but I don't need things like a washing machine, ...). The possibly for an internet connection is welcome.

I am someone who is very quiet and clean, I am 23 year old.

If someone has an advise to help me in my quest, he is welcome, he can contact me here, or by mail in my contact address on Internet : siron777@hotmail.com

Thank you.

Simon

Czech native share flat with English native

Hello, my name is Petr Kadlec and I'm 25 yr old Czech native speaker from Nové Město na Moravě, Vysočina (Highlands). I would like to share a flat with some English native, prefer English once. I'm started to work in Brno in August, 1st. But I haven't have any accomodation in these days so I'm looking for someone who have any spare room in the flat. Rather I would like to live near the city centre, but don't mind, if it was further from the center. I've been learning English intensively a year here in Brno in Tutor language school and i would like to improve my language skills and speaking as well. Therefore I'm looking especially for English native speaker. I'm loking forward to your replies. Yours faithfully, Petr Kadlec.

Looking for accommodations near Technological Park

Hi!

I am moving to Brno (I plan to arrive around 28th of June) and I am looking for a small flat (for 1 person) or a room to rent near Technological Park. I am polite and I do not smoke.

Under ideal circumstances I would like to move in straight away.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thinking of buying a flat

Just wanted to hear some thoughts on buying a flat in Brno at the moment (during 2010). I will be here for the next 5 years as my wife is coming for PHD and some work and it makes sense to buy.

Did anybody go through the process recently, from what I know anyone with residency permit should be able to buy. I am non-EU and am here working so should have no problem.

My logic is getting a 3+1 and the rate would be like ~10.000 a month + expenses like 3.000 and if I rent out one room for like 5.000 thats only 8.000 on my side which is cheaper then renting.
